Armin x Reader - Flaming Passion“Eren, what am I supposed to do?”“Relax, Armin. (F/N) will forgive you after a while.”Armin bit his fingernails, his nerves working up a fit. “It’s different this time. She’s going to leave me. I can feel it in my bones.”A rattling sigh drifted down the line. Armin clutched the phone to his ear like a lifeline. “I know she loves those over-the-top apologies in romance dramas. Is there anything that you and Mikasa watched that can help me?”Eren hummed in thought. “There was this one ridiculous scene I watched recently.”“What is it? What did they do?”“The guy wanted to apologize for being a loud jerk. So he invited her over for dinner and threw petals all along the way from the entrance to where he was. There was some freaking balloon arch where he stood. Oh, and candles. So many candles on the floor and on the table.”“Candles,” Armin murmured. “I can do that.”“Yeah, maybe that will work.”“Okay, I’ll do it. It’s worth a shot.” Armin sucked in a long breath. “Thanks, Eren.”“No problem. Anything for you, man. I’m so thankful Mikasa doesn’t like all those crap.”Chuckling, Armin shook his head. “She would probably hit you on the head instead.”“Yeah, she would. Anyway, I gotta go. Talk to you later.”“See you.”Armin hung up. He surveyed his spacious loft apartment, imagining how he could decorate it. Balloons could hang from the railing and down the staircase. He had a bunch of candles for emergency purposes but he could run out to the store and get more. Petals, he could get from the same store. He frowned. (F/N) liked it when he went the extra mile. What else could he do that wouldn’t take too long to get? Then, it hit him. With a solid strategy in mind, he headed down to the store, grabbed all the necessary equipment, and went back to his apartment. He started with the balloons first, inflating them painstakingly with his own mouth. His weak lungs burned with the effort but it had to be done. Wheezing, he tied all of them along the staircase and railings. Next were the candles. He laid them out in a line to form a pathway from his door. Then, he sprinkled the petals along the pathway. Now, for the final touches. He hid his assortment of stand fans behind potted plants, bookshelves, and cabinets while making sure that the generated wind would still reach the pathway. It was tedious, tedious, tedious work that he absolutely hated doing. Every time the fan was directed an inch too low, it would blow away his petals and snuff out the candles. He scurried back and forth more than a hundred times before he hit the sweet spot. By that time, his sweat-drenched shirt was sticking to his skin. He quickly jumped into the shower, put on a decent long-sleeved shirt and pants, and headed back down again. (F/N) had told him she would pop by to get her things before she went to the gala. She should be here anytime now.A chime of the doorbell sent a flutter of anxiety down Armin’s spine. Speak of the devil- he corrected himself - his angel. “The door’s unlocked,” he called out. “Come in.”He straightened his back and exhaled a short breath. His heart pumped like a racecar on its last legs. This was it.The sound of heels on marble resonated in the apartment. He put on his best apologetic smile, his fingers clutching a small bouquet of flowers.(F/N) stepped into view. Armin’s breath was stolen away. She looked magnificent in that flowing yellow gown. Her face was framed by dancing strands of hair blown by the artificially generated wind from his stand fans. When (F/N) saw the intricate pathway he had laid out, her eyes widened in pleasant surprise and she smiled. A beautiful smile that stopped his heart. His lips curled up in relief. She would forgive him, wouldn’t she?She walked towards him in almost slow motion and he savored every second of it. His plan worked! And boy, was it a gorgeous plan. His gaze trailed down from her lovely eyes crinkled in adoration to her plump lips smiling for him. He lingered on her decent cleavage and then his gaze dropped down to her shapely legs framed by the long gown blowing in the wind and covering the candle-lit pathway-Was the yellow material aglow… with fire?!Armin’s eyes widened in terror. He had overestimated the amount of generated wind! The yellow gown must have been made especially for catching fire because, in a matter of seconds, the flames from the candles had licked away the trailing material and edged their way up to (F/N)’s rear!He rushed towards (F/N), running like someone had set him on fire. (F/N)’s smile grew wider, imagining that he would grab her and spin her around. When his arms wrapped around her thin waist, she gasped in pleasure. He lifted her up but instead of spinning her in a horizontal circle, he spun her straight to the floor. Landing with a loud thump that might have cracked her spine, (F/N) yipped in agony. Armin rolled her around and around until she realized with horror that a burning sensation was spreading across her ass.“Armin, what the hell are you doing?” she screamed in anger and pain.“Your gown was turning into a flaming ball of fire!” “Wha- Get off me!”As she struggled in his stifling embrace, Armin raised his hand and brought it down on her behind. She yelped, “What are you doing now??”“Can’t you feel the fire??”“Yes, I can!” Shoving him off her, she struggled to her feet and appraised what was left of her gown and her rear. Her mouth fell open at the dangling material that now hung just above her darkened underwear. Red fury bloomed across her cheeks. She pointed an accusing finger at the cowering Armin. “I don’t know what gave you the idea to do this but this is it! We’re over!”With that, she stormed out of the apartment, leaving a stunned and traumatized Armin frozen to the spot. He surveyed the disaster area. Blackened petals were strewn on the floor, candle wax dripped all over it, and a pile of yellow gown ash gathered at his feet.Groaning, he tilted his head back and squeezed his eyes shut. If anyone were to look at his pained, innocent face, they would think he was bemoaning the loss of (F/N) or dreading the cleanup of his apartment. But he only had one thought in his mind.He was going to kill Eren before Mikasa did.
(Attack on Titan RP) A Night in the WoodsChapter 1, Titan in the night It was late afternoon as a group of scouts followed a path that rimmed one of the giant forests, they were on their way back to the walls from a minor expedition which was successful. The group, led by Captain Levi was still on their guard as a Titan could come thundering out from the forest at any moment. Coriin was silent as he toyed with the reins of his horse as he glanced back at the forest, he wished they took a route that would bring them farther from the forest, but Captain Levi didn’t want this to be an overnight mission, he didn’t blame him, but the forest made him edgy… As the rode through the dark forest in silence with the only sound of their horses hooves pounding against the ground Jay couldn’t shake the feeling that he was being stared at it was making him uncomfortable. He didn’t let his face give away what he was feeling but the sudden hand that split there squad in half was another issue. CRASH, the sound of limbs breaking was the only warning the soldiers had, then dirt and rubble flew as a giant hand hit the ground, Coriin yanked the reins of Mika pulling them back just in time to avoid being killed, his eyes settled on the hand, then turning he was gazing into a pair of giant soulless blue eyes, peering out from the brush. “Sh**, of course…” he heard his Captain mutter, “Reathman! Koen! Blouse! I need you in the air now, take that Titan out! The rest of you keep to the road, we can’t let the cargo get destroyed….” Levi ordered as the Titan dragged its arm across the path behind him. Coriin didn’t waste a second, he pushed up onto the saddle of his horse and squeezed the triggers of his odm, letting the wires pull him into the tangle of limbs…. Standing up on his horse Jay jumps in the air and lets his wire’s connect into a tree which launches him straight into the air. “Ok…now where…there its.” Taking in the Titans built and realized it’s more heavy and it has really thin legs. Tighten his grip his blades, Jay pulls the trigger and plunges towards the Titan. He notices Coriin going high so he was going to attack low but for a split second he asked himself ‘Wheres Blouse?’ “WAHHHHHH-“ Coriin and Jay were made aware of Sasha’s location, briefly, because she had just came whizzing past in front of Coriin to evade a second Titan that had came upon them without warning, Coriin’s body instinctively braced as the titans hand followed, but luckily his reactions took hold and he corrected his advance away from the oncoming reaching hand. He glanced back at the second Titan as it peered out from around a tree, suddenly, his wires were jerked hard and he quickly turned, *d*mn* he thought, he was suddenly yanked through the air, the forest battlefield speeding past, he tried to do something, anything, but his arms would not work against the force and speed he was being pulled, the only thing he could do was grit his teeth and brace against whatever impact he was sure to make, “KOEN LOOK OUT!” he heard Sasha scream seconds before he collided hard with someone Before he had the chance to even slice the Titan Jay heard Sasha scream his name but suddenly he felt something very hard crashing into his side. The world spun and the only thing he could hear was branches breaking as he and whatever hit him crashed through multiple tree branches. Feeling his head getting hit everything went back…. Everything spun, and Coriin hadn’t even opened his eyes yet, slowly his senses came back to him and with them a throbbing ache, something was wrapped around his arms and chest tightly, he shifted trying to understand all of this, finally he opened his eyes to see a blurry darkness, he blinked a few times and his surroundings only became slightly clearer, it was dark, he realized, a shocked ping went through him as he started recalling what happened, “What…?” He muttered as he noticed the tight burning of whatever was wrapped around his chest again, he frowned, *My ODM wires…How am I not dead?….stuck up in a tree all day and a Titan hasn’t grabbed me? Where are the others….?* he looked around in the dark, hearing something shift beside him he turned and narrowing his eyes he could barely make out another scout beside him, also trapped in the wires. “Hey!” He hissed, trying to bring the scout into conciseness, he couldn’t tell if they were alright “Hey!” Waking up with a nasty headache and a throbbing ribs was not what Jay was expecting he would have to deal with today and to make matters more confusing he was tied up in wires *what the hell?* Shaking his head to wake himself up Jay noticed he was not alone and they are in a tree. Trying to see who it is Jay noticed familiar slicked back hair “Reathman?” “Ah, Koen!” Coriin said through gritted teeth because he was shifting against the wires to get free, which was burning his skin. “Are you alright? Well, …aside from the obvious…” he asked between quite sounds of struggling to be freed from the wires, he was trying to reach his boot where he had a knife stashed for emergencies, he didn’t want to have to cut his wires, but he didn’t have much other choices, and at least in the night they didn’t have to worry about Titans…he pulled his leg up and tried reaching into the side of his boot. “I think so. How did we get in a tree?” Jay watch Corrin struggling with the wires he was tied as he swung from the branch he was dangling from. Jay was tied to a branch but he had one arm free. Seeing that Corrin trying to reach his boot Jay asked “Do you need help?” Coriin nodded, “Yeah, there’s a knife in my boot on the side there, I can’t get it.” He held his leg out for Jay to reach as he added, “I don’t know, a Titan grabbed my wires and I couldn’t do anything, after Sasha called out I think I collided with you, but I don’t remember much else…” he glanced around as Jay fiddled with his boot, “….I hope everyone else made it out….” Grabbing Coriins boot Jay reached for the hilt of the knife as Coriin talked about how they possibly got stuck here. Finally managing to grab the knife Jay replies “Our squad is pretty capable of handling themselves, I’m sure they’ll be fine.” Pulling the knife out of Coriins boot and flipping it in his hand so Coriin could reach the handle Jay adds… “Do you know which wires go to what? I don’t need you dropping out the tree.” “I fell from worse…” Coriin jokingly replied as he took the knife, “but yeah, I think I know what goes where…” he started slowly cutting wires, he followed them with his fingers before cutting to be sure he didn’t cut a wire that was keeping him suspended, “Yeah your right…I’m sure their all alright.” He sighed, he knew they were all very capable, but it was hard to grasp how the situation could have went, he stopped briefly to look around, from their limited vision in the dark he couldn’t tell if there was any signs of the fight going wrong, but if they survived, wouldn’t someone have come back for them? They couldn’t be very far from where the fighting took place…Coriin was silent as he pondered the different scenarios, he grit his teeth when he thought about Sasha, could her body be somewhere below? Or….parts of her body…? He shook his head to rid his mind of the thought, *Just don’t think of it!* finally a wire snapped and he grabbed hold of the wire that was holding him up. Once Coriin finished freeing himself he passed the knife to Jay as he quickly sliced through his wires and making sure he didn’t cut the ones Coriin was holding onto. Sitting up on the branch Jay looked around them but in the dark forest everything looked exactly the same. “By any chance do you know which direction we should start going to?” Coriin had pulled himself up onto the branch beside Jay and he narrowed his eyes again looking around, “No…” he shook his head, “I don’t know which way the Titan threw me, I don’t know where the road is. But if we can find it….” He stood up and looked over his shoulder, nothing but blurry darkness behind them too, there was no landmarks to guide them, and hardly any moon. Coriin rotated his shoulders then proceeded to rub his chest where the wires had tightened, it stung some at the touch, *must have rubbed it raw* “If we can climb high enough to see the sky we can tell which way to go using the position of the moon….” He said quietly and looking to Jay he added, “We don’t want to be out here when the morning comes and the titans become active, Im down wires and swords, I must have dropped them….” Standing up with a small wince appearing on his face Jay checks his gear to see he only had one sword left but the handle was gone so it was just a broken blade. Looking upwards Jay calmly said “Well we need to get moving then.” Grabbing a branch Jay goes up the tree with Coriin following close behind Coriin climbed after Jay, he didn’t like the feeling of being so high without his odm gear, but it wasn’t like they had a choice, he was quite as they climbed, it was a slow process, not knowing what your grabbing, but finally Coriin seen Jay pull himself through the canopy, and he followed, grabbing Jay’s offered hand he is pulled the rest of the way and stands on the limb dusting off, he tilts his head up towards the sky. *cloudy….* he scanned the lumpy rolling sky wondering if rain was coming, finally he did spot the pale glow of the moon as it hid behind the clouds. From there he went on to compare the distance between the moon and the horizon line it was closest to, determining which way it was traveling across the sky, he turned looking to what he was positive was the northwest, “If we keep in that direction we should cross paths with the road, if not, that’s still the direction of the walls.” “Ok then. Now for the fun part” As Jay gestured to the far ground below. They both climbed down the tall tree being careful not to step on any weak branches as they safely make it towards the ground. Taking a leaf out his hair Jay asks “Are you okay? You were rubbing your chest earlier.” Coriin felt his boots plant in the mulch at the base of the tree and he let go of the bark, “Are you okey?-“ Jay asked as Coriin checked himself for leaves, he nodded, “Yeah, the wires were pretty tight, they left rope burns, but I’m ok.” He dusted a leaf off Jay’s shoulder then looked around, orienting himself to his new surroundings he started walking, careful not to bump into any trees or trip over the exposed roots. Now, on the ground below all the towering tree’s Coriin felt even more vulnerable, grounded, without weapons, he prayed what all the textbooks and Section commander said about Titans only being active in the day weren’t wrong, they would be helpless…. Jay studied him to make sure he was telling the truth and was pleased to see he wasn’t lying. Coriin led the way as Jay followed behind him, making sure he listened to his surroundings just in case some wild animal tried approaching them. Jay wasn’t pleased with the situation they were currently stuck in but he was relieved he was with someone who he believes to be dependable Coriin was quite, which wasn’t unusual, he wasn’t the type to engage in small talk too much, although he didn’t mind it when someone else started it up first, but right now he wanted to fill the silence at least a little, “Do you think any of the cargo was damaged?” He asked calmly as he stepped over another root that his boot tapped against, “Careful of your step there.” He added. Watching where Coriin told him to step Jay gave him his honest opinion. “If we are being realistic then it’s possible that it got damaged. Our squad as a whole didn’t see the Titans coming so I wouldn’t be surprised if something got destroyed.” “So long as no-one got damaged…” Coriin replied with a slight frown, “But if the cargo got wasted the Captains not going to be pleased, I guess we weren’t coordinating our attacks well, but the low visibility didn’t help…so, I guess the blame isn’t all on us….but I guess that’s mostly an excuse huh?” He knew the titans came out of the blue, and certainly the second one did, but he couldn’t help but feel lousy if the mission was deemed a fail if the cargo they’d been hauling around all day had been damaged, he also should have been watching where he was going instead of looking back at the second Titan, then he would have seen his odm get grabbed, because of that two fighters were taken early from the fray, could Sasha have dealt with two titans on her own?… Shaking his head at Coriins response but stopping when it made his head hurt,Jay tells him. “I wouldn’t call it an excuse we were put in a situation where the odds just weren’t in our favor. As for the cargo it can always be replaced, it may take a while though since it’s hard to come by.” Jay wouldn’t blame anyone for the disaster that caused this situation mainly because it was unexpected and he really doesn’t remember what happened after Coriin hit him. Coriin was silent at that, So the cargo could be replaced, but that meant a whole other risky operation just like this one, what if the outcome was worse the second go? Heck, they didn’t even know the outcome of this one yet! Coriin found himself sighing, he was about to tell Jay this,-of course in a less worried way then he really was-but he was interrupted when his knees clipped something hard and he tripped foreword, “Ack…” Coriin yelped, luckily he didn’t have far to fall, but he fell onto something fleshy….an air sucking sound automatically escaped his mouth as he tried to muffle a gasp, quickly pushing up he took several steps backwards trying desperately to see into the darkness in front of him….”God…I think I tripped into a Titan…” he whispered, as if on cue the moon parted from the clouds just barely enough to cast some pale light on the ground in front of the scouts, and there it lay, on its back, it’s face upside down, unblinking green eyes staring at them…”sh**” Coriin hissed between clutched teeth, even though he guessed what he tripped into, it still didn’t prepare him for that scene, but who would be prepared to see that giant face with its soulless eyes? Coriin was standing beside Jay after his quick tumble into what looked like a sleeping Titan. Jay already had the knife Coriin lended him earlier (he forgot to give it back)gripped tightly in his hand which was covered by his cloak, Whispering to Coriin in a calm tone as he carefully put a hand on his shoulder, which he hopes will bring Coriin out of the slight panic he was in… “Yeah that’s a Titan but I don’t think it’s awake so we should be ok.” Coriin nodded silently, he stared back at the Titan, after the overall shock he calmed down pretty quickly, reminding himself that the titans don’t move in the night, once again hoping it was true for all titans…. “Yeah, let’s go….” he replied instinctively reaching for the sheath of his blade which was not there, he didn’t even have any spare blades since the expedition earlier that day spent all his backups, *what luck….* He glanced around then started continuing on, around the Titan, he kept at a distance from the sleeping giant, trying to go over ideas for the “what ifs” what if it woke up suddenly and attacked? What would they do? Could they climb a tree fast enough? Sure they could climb down one without their odm’s, but the bases of the trees had no lower limbs, the bark was hard to grip, and they couldn’t outrun it, not when they could barely see in front of them. His mind was working at 100% as they moved on, but it would have been hard to tell, he looked calm aside from his alert gaze as he scanned their surroundings…. Walking around the wide eyed Titan Jay continued to follow Coriin as they walked through the dark forest. Looking down at the knife still in his hand Jay picks up his speed so he was walking beside Coriin instead of behind him. He noticed him reaching for his swords that weren’t there so Jay figured he’ll feel better if Coriin had his knife back, Flipping the blade around in his hand he asked Coriin “Do you want your Knife back?” Coriin heard Jay’s steps quicken and glanced over his shoulder to see what was happening, but all he saw was his comrade come into pace beside him and offer the knife, “Oh….I forgot you still had that, nah, you hold onto it.” He said motioning for Jay to keep it, if everything went from bad to worse he wanted to be sure Jay had something to defend himself with, much good a knife would do him in a Titan attack anyway….finally they were out from the clearing where the Titan slept, but Coriin didn’t let his guard down, where there was one, there was sure to be others, just so long as they were all sleeping, they should be fine….Coriin pulled his cloak closer as a cold breeze blew across the forest floor, he ran a hand through his hair to get a few strands out of his face. Looking at the knife Jay slides it into a strap inside his boot. He usually carried knives way before he joined the scouts for self defense after some of his fights but ironically the one night they get left in the woods he doesn’t bring not a single knife with him. A cold breeze blows pass them, ruffling there hair and the leaves above them. It was pretty loud, so loud that Jay almost missed the hand reaching over Corrins head. “Sh*t!!” Reacting quickly Jay pulled Coriin hard by his cloak as a hand smacked down on the now empty spot on the ground…. The jerk startled Coriin and he staggered backwards just as a dark figure crashed down where he was standing moments before, *A Titan?! But….how?* Coriin steadied his footing and glanced over his shoulder at Jay, then back towards the direction the hand came, “We can’t fight it! Lets run…!” He hissed, if they ran weaving through the trees maybe they could outrun it? But they could only see the trunks when they were right upon them, it was still so dark, but he believed they had a better chance of survival running then trying to fend off against a Titan without proper equipment, something the captain said came to mind: “Don’t go running off into the fight unless your ready to die.” Nodding his head Jay didn’t hesitate when he grabbed Coriin’s wrist and ran back into the forest quickly picking a route with less roots so they could have a easier time running. Letting go so Coriin can run on his own as Jay took the lead he called back “We can’t run forever! We need to find somewhere to hide!” Coriin had his hand grabbed and in a flash they were running through the darkness, he braced against the thought of running into or tripping over something, when Jay let go of his hand Coriin began running beside him, “We need to find somewhere to hide!” Jay called over the crash of the Titan thundering behind them. *think…where to hide…the trees would be our best bet, if we could climb them, a hollow? But we can’t let the Titan box us in, it would be able to reach us….”We can’t hide from it! There is no tree’s with deep enough hollows, the Titan will be able to reach in and grab us! And finding one would take too long….” Coriin cursed as something crashed at their heels, he staggered forward from the shaking of the ground and continued running, Why was this Titan awake and active? It was night! It shouldn’t have any energy! But he couldn’t worry about that now…suddenly an idea hit him, the titan was barreling recklessly after them, maybe if they hid behind a tree the Titan wouldn’t be able to stop and collide with it hard enough for it to be slowed up, “Koen!” Coriin said urgently, “Behind that next tree!” Nodding his head Jay looked behind them just to see how big the gap was between them and the Titan, which was quickly getting smaller as the yellow teeth reflected off the moon’s light. Seeing the next tree appearing out of the dark Jay and Coriin quickly turned and hid behind the tree as the Titan collided face first with the tree, causing sticks and leaves to rain down on them. The tree started to tilt from the weight of the titan causing the guys to run in a whole different direction to avoid getting squished by the falling tree, The Titan followed them as it knocked down trees around the as the guys narrowly avoided getting hit by reaching hands. But as they ran through the forest they noticed that less trees started appearing…. Coriin was running as fast as he could, his empty sheathes clanking at his sides, he could hear the Titan as it smashed through trees on its pursuit of the two unarmed soldiers, the crack as trees were uprooted, slicing through other limbs in there way to the ground, he heard his heart pounding in his ears the loudest though, and the heavy breathing of his partner as Jay ran beside him, he almost didn’t notice the lack of trees until it was too late, he would recall later how he slowly begun to realize that the sounds of the Titan plowing down trees became less, and that they didn’t have to weave out of the way of trunks, then, as his last footfall landed on nothing, he realized their mistake as his heart sunk. They had ran off a cliff and into a River…! Chapter 2, Drown. Cold That was the first feeling Jay registered as him and Coriin fell into freezing water. But Jay would rather deal with soaked clothes then getting crushed by a titan. He felt Coriin hand brush pass his face so he grabs it and starts swimming towards the surface, secretly praying the Titan gives up and turns around. Coriin swam towards the waters surface with Jay, he had realized at the last second what they were plummeting into, and had managed to take a breath before they broke the water, which he almost lost as the shock of cold water took hold. It was dark, and the sounds of rushing water was all he could hear, then they were breaking the surface, Coriin gasped for air and slung his hair out of his face, he looked around, the moon was shining through the clouds again, the glitter of the rushing river would have been pretty if he wasn’t in it, and if they hadn’t almost died….he saw Jay come up beside him and was relieved at the sight of his water logged comrade. He looked behind him and up at the cliffs they had fallen from, there stood a pale figure in the dark….watching them…. Looking up at the Titan Jay couldn’t help but glare at the ugly creature. Not even attempting to move his hair out of his face Jay spots the edge of the river. “Reathman, let’s go we can get out over there.” They both swim toward the edge as the Titan silently watched from above Climbing out onto the bank of the River Coriin sat on his knees slinging water from his arms, “That was a crazy ride….” He said shaking his head as Jay came climbing out beside him. He tried to sleek his wet hair back behind his ears, he hated hair in his face, he didn’t like anything that would hinder his sight, but at least the wetness kept it in place… Coriin glanced back over his shoulder, back to where the Titan watched, but it was not there…!? “The Titan is gone….” Coriin said quietly as he scanned the cliff side, hoping it wasn’t trying to get to them. “Why is it active? It’s supposed to be as still as a plank of wood right now…” Standing up looked up at the cliff side and just like Coriin said the Titan was nowhere in sight. Hearing his comrade ask “Why is it active?” Had Jay just as puzzled. “I’m not sure but I don’t want to stay out here, it could be heading this way right now.” Jay was freezing and the cold air was just making him feel stiff. What he felt like was the best course of action was to find a place where they weren’t directly outside, they need a cover or some type of shelter. *We can’t be out here too much longer, if one of us gets sick it’s going to be d*mn near impossible to return back to the wall.* Coriin stood up rubbing the back of his head as he glanced around, “Yeah….” He pointed. “we are supposed to be going in that direction still.” Coriin was cold and he was annoyed that he was visibly shivering, he tried to ring out his cloak, it was his best source of warmth, but it wasn’t doing him any good in this state, so he just took it off and continued to try and squeeze the water out of it as he started walking, the feeling of his shirt clinging to his skin agitated his burns. He was silent as he watched the forest and the cliffs behind him, then, suddenly, Coriin stiffened and he spun around to face the river, because he just saw a pale giant figure on the edge before it became a blur as it dove into the water, sending up a large spray of cold water. “C’mon! Really?!” He growled and started at a run. Jay walked behind Coriin and watched his comrade attempt to wring out his cloak. Jay left his clothes alone, he was mainly focused on breathing since every breath that he took that was too deep caused his ribs to ache. Wrapping his arms around himself as a attempt to warm himself up Coriin suddenly turned around. “Cmon really?!!” *What?* When Jay turned around The Titan dove back under water and Jay could clearly hear the frustration in Coriin’s voice as they both ran blindly back into the forest. The Titan cut through the water in its rampage to catch the scouts, it burst out upon the bank and started at a run, tucking its arms close to its chest as it staggered quickly after them. At the last second the giant pounced, crashing through the leaves and limbs on its way down, Coriin looked up in time to see the shadowy Titan coming down on them. “No!…” Coriin yelled, he dove to the left deliberately knocking Jay sideways and they both crashed to the ground as debris flew through the air. “Urgh!” Coriin grunted feeling a sharp pain rent through his leg, glancing over his shoulder he saw his white pants leg quickly blossoming crimson, he thought he saw a gash but he couldn’t tell in the low light. He ignored it and gathered himself to his feet with his comrade, and continued running with Jay as the Titan continued its pursuit, it nearly grabbed them when they were down, but they were quick enough to just miss its reaching fingers…. Jays ribs throbbed when Coriin pushed them out of the titans reach but thanks to that the Titan lost balance and fell over, giving them time to get up and run. Jay heard Coriin grunt in pain when he stood up but Coriin didn’t say anything but, Jay noticed the dark stain growing on his comrades pants leg. *We can’t do this forever. Come on…think!* Looking over his shoulder Jay can see the titan catching up. Not seeing any other options Jay thinks of a quick gamble to hopefully kill the titan but if not at least slow it down. “Reathman! I got an idea, but you can’t argue with me on this! I need you to go left!” Coriin didn’t feel too much pain in his leg as he ran, he knew it was the adrenaline and wasn’t exactly arguing. *if we keep running this thing will chase us all night…and day…* he thought as there was another crash behind them. “….Go left!” Jay had called, Coriin had faith in his comrade so he did as he was told, *no arguments outta me…* he quickly broke off to the left glancing over his shoulder at the Titan. Seeing Coriin going left Jay decided to put his last minute plan into action. Thanks to his time as a street fighter Jay is great at reading body language, being able to tell if someone was next saved him multiple times. Seeing Coriin a decent distance away, Jay turns around and runs toward the 22ft Titan. One thing Jay knew for sure a person thinks before they act but not a Titan. Running toward it Jay noticed the Titan getting low to the ground, as soon as it’s hands touch the ground it jumped and dove for Jay. But expecting the jump Jay slides right under it as it face plants right into the ground. Reaching into his boot Jay pulls out Coriins knife. Backing up as the Titan rose again Jay could of sworn it frowned at him or it was just the darkness messing with his view. Squeezing the knife in his hand he yells “Your going to have to do better than that to get me!!” Seeing that he officially got its full attention, Jay runs back to the river where him and Coriin fell into earlier. As he ran the Titan dove towards him and he would dodge it’s giant hands as he zigzagged through trees. *Who would of thought years of running from the military police would come in handy.* Finally seeing sparkling water Jay stops right in front of the edge as he waited for the Titan to come charging out the forest. He pushed down the fear he had as blue eyes came flying out the darkness and into the moonlight. As it dove with its mouth hanging wide Jay gripped the knife and sliced the Titan right across its giant blue eyes. The Titan goes soaring over him and into the river and Jay fell flat on his back to avoid getting hit by it. With a splash Jay turns around and doesn’t see it get up again as the water stilled. With a sigh of relief Jay stands up so he can meet up with Coriin but before he even took a step he felt something grab his cloak and is forcibly yanked back into freezing waters… Coriin watched as Jay ran towards the Titan, he skidded to a stop against a tree watching as Jay rushed under the giant and led it back to the river, *He’s can idiot!* he thought in a complementary manner, the feat was impressive, then the giants eyes were slashed and it came plummeting headfirst into the river, Coriin pushed off the tree as Jay stepped out of the water, but as Coriin was about to approach he saw his friend at a distance get snagged and pulled back into the river…. “Koen!” Coriin broke into a run towards the river, ignoring the pain in his leg, as the water splashed and churned from whatever was happening below, he skidded to a halt at the bank squinting to see past the foaming water. *D*mn what’s happening?* He knew there may not be time to waste by waiting on the bank, throwing his cloak to the side and fearing the worst Coriin dove, his intentions on untangling Jay from the Titan’s grasp…. The Titan pulled Jay down by his cloak as icy water filled inside his mouth. Jay forced his mouth closed and looked down. Thanks to the moon light Jay was able to see the Titan blindly reaching for him with its free hand as blood poured out of its sliced eyes. The Titan was trying to find him, Suddenly Jay felt Coriin grab his ankle and pull him upwards but what his comrade wasn’t aware of he was basically choking him in his cloak. Panicking from his cloak tightening around his throat Jay kicked Coriins hands so he would let him go. When he finally let go,Jay brought the knife by his neck and sliced through the cloak Coriin realized too late that Jay’s cloak was still snagged, he let go and gave Jay an apologetic rub on his shoulder after he cut himself free and Coriin helped him to the surface, he broke the water drawing in a breath and followed his friend to the bank, “Are you ok?…I’m sorry I didn’t realize..the cloak…” he said through catching his breath, he pushed onto the bank and felt his leg throbbing hard, he cringed but tried to shrug it off, “We have to find shelter so we can figure out our next step, if that Titan is active in the night, what if there are others…?” Stumbling out the water Jay couldn’t help but drop to his knees and cough up water, he felt like he had been under for hours. He couldn’t really hear Coriin at first but he caught the end of whatever he was saying and nodded his head in agreement. They really had to find shelter somehow because after what just happened neither of them are in the best fighting condition. Coughing to clear his throat of any remaining water Jay hoarsely said “If there are others w-were screwed.” Coriin nodded as he watched his comrade to be sure he was ok, “Yeah….let’s be sure that doesn’t happen, I don’t wanna go out running or hiding, that’s for sure, we can figure out something, tonight’s not going to be the night we end up Titan chaw….” When Jay seemed to have rested enough Coriin helped him to his feet and glanced back at the water, it was unnerving that there was a Titan down there…*I hope you can drown…b***…* Coriin looked around and started walking, he remembered seeing old cabins in the forest from past expeditions, if they could find one, bunker down and not make a sound, maybe they can wait out the night, in this situation with titans on the prowl both night and day Coriin preferred trying to escape the forest in the day time, at least then they could see a Titan coming on them in time to react….the near misses that night made him shudder to think, and they weren’t even over the fence yet so to speak…. Chapter 3, a shelter and a grave. Taking Coriins hand to help him off the ground he followed him as they started walking towards the direction they recently just ran from. At this point Jay was freezing and the fact that his cloak was at the bottom of the river wasn’t helping. Trying to distract himself from shivering he looks around as they walked but he ends ups seeing the stain on Coriins leg growing bigger. Clearing his throat so he can hopefully talk louder than earlier Jay asked “Is your leg o-okay?” Coriin frowned slightly at the question, glancing back at his leg and seeing the blood seeping through his pants leg he knew saying it was fine was an obvious joke, in truth, he assumed some sharp wood or something slashed his leg, and it felt like there may be something still in it….walking was beginning to be a task, as every step shot a throb of pain up his leg, but he hadn’t tried to deal with it, they hadn’t had time….and he knew if they didn’t find a safe place soon, he wouldn’t be able to outrun another Titan…. “I think some debris gashed it.” He responded quietly as he turned back to face where they were walking, “It will be ok until we get to where we need to go, I remember last expedition I saw a few old cabins that looked still mostly intact, if we can find one we can wait out the night there.” Jay frowned at Coriins response and immediately grabbed his arm and pulled it over his shoulder. “Y-your going to m-make it worse if you keep walking on it.” Coriin was a few inches taller than him so Jay was going to be a crutch for him as they continued their search for shelter. Coriin grunted at the sudden change of walking to using Jay as a support, it startled him since his mind was still in Titan attack mode. “It’ll be fine until we get where we are going.” He tried to assure his comrade, but Jay merely kept walking. Coriin knew there was no arguing and went silent again, making a mental note to thank him later when he felt less vulnerable. The duo trudged on following Coriin’s directions, he insured they were still traveling northwest, towards the walls, but he hoped they would stumble upon an abandoned cabin somewhere along the way….and it seemed like luck was finally on their side, Coriin had been scanning the dark overgrowth for any signs of danger, or shelter, when his pale brown eyes hit on what was surely the dark figure of a small cabin not far away. “Koen…I see a cabin, over there!” He whispered. Looking up from the ground to make sure they didn’t trip on any roots Jay saw the small cabin. A strong chill ran through his body as some wind blew through his soaked clothes. Tensing up so he wouldn’t be shivering too bad Jay whispered “Great, I’m tired of being out in the open.” They walk to the small cabin to find the door slightly cracked open… Coriin frowned as they approached the cabin, he felt his friend tense up and wandered how much of it was from the chilly winds that just blew, and how much of it was due to the sudden unnerving feelings Coriin felt, something was off….but they had no where else to turn, so he continued towards the Cabin, but he did confide in his comrade, “Something feels off Jay…” he said gently as he squinted at the door which rested slightly ajar. He pushed the door open. The moonlight slipping in to cast their shadows across the old floor, there was a musky Oder, the scent of death came flouting out from inside….it wasn’t too strong anymore, but it was obvious something had expired in there. Coriin pushed the door open the rest of the way and flinched at what he saw next: sitting against the opposite wall leaning on the mossy stones of a fireplace was the remains of a soldier, their empty eye sockets gazing back at them…. Jay couldn’t recognize the fallen soldier, the face was so decayed. Based off how the body looked Jay knew the body has been sitting there for a while. Jay knew whoever this person was went out fighting for humanity but sadly had to die all alone in this small cabin. Jay felt Coriin flinch beside him so Jay gave his arm a squeeze as for reassurance. Jay still doesn’t know Coriin all to well but he has noticed that he takes deaths from the scouts very seriously and personal. breaking the silence Jay quietly said “I think….they should be buried. They deserve a proper burial.” Coriin nodded stiffly, they should definitely be buried, they should be buried honorably, and the poor man or woman should have died fighting by their comrades, but somehow they ended up here, probably waiting for help that never came, he wondered how long they had to suffer, how many lonely doomed days they spent here, in this one room cabin…Coriin tried to push the thoughts away, but one last thought came to mind, was it someone he knew? He shook his head silently to clear his thoughts and stepped inside, The smell didn’t bother him much, having to aid in the cleanup of battles had made him nose blind to it, now it was just a byproduct of the visual horrors which was far worse then any smell. Coriin felt his leg give on him as he approached the dead soldier, which wasn’t too much of a problem, since he was going to crouch nearby to inspect their person for ID anyway, but the throbbing only got worse, he tried to shrug it off and began searching the soldiers jacket, finding the ID he held it between two fingers squinting in the low light, he shook his head at the name, “I didn’t know him, he was a part of another unit, Deric Loft is his name.” He said looking to Jay to see if he knew him. “The name sounds familiar but I don’t know him either.” Jay noticed Lofts gear was still intact and the only thing missing was one of the blades in the holster on his hip. Crouching beside Coriin Jay starts unbuckling the gear while saying “He should be easier to move if I take this off. Do you think you can find something to start a fire?” Jay didn’t want Coriin handling the body so he figured it would be better to give him something else to focus on instead. Coriin nodded, “Yeah, luckily it hasn’t rained in a few days, the wood outside should be nice and dry.” He said as he stood up, he used the stone of the fireplace to help him stand without putting too much weight on his wounded leg, he left the cabin silently. He stepped out into the cool air of the woods and caution guided him as he scanned the giant trees for anything peeking out from around them, judging that the cost was clear Coriin didn’t waste time, he searched around the cabin for any stored woodpiles, and was lucky to find a stash, he gathered an armful, and glanced up and around again. Dark, quite, only the wind spoke in shushed tones as it stirred the leaves of the majestic trees above and around, there was no signs of Titans, no giant footfalls or raspy breathing, but Coriin was suddenly made aware of the sounds he didn’t hear, no cicadas or crickets chimed their metallic songs, he shivered as another wind blown, and frowned, The nighttime bugs usually grew silent when danger was nearby…. Coriin started walking back to the cabin, his brown eyes alert in the dark, he got back to the door, and slipped in closing it quietly with his shoulder. Once Coriin left the Cabin Jay pinched the sleeve of Lofts jacket and removed the knife from his boot as he carefully cuts out the “wings of freedom” patch. Picking up the ID coriin left behind Jay folded the patch around it and placed it in his other boot. *I’ll give it to captain once we are out of here so he can give it to the correct unit.* Removing the odm gear next after releasing a few more buckles and straps. Taking off the Jacket he tied it around the body’s face. Making sure he wasn’t forgetting anything Jay lifted the cold stiff body and quietly left the house before Coriin returned…. Coriin entered into a empty cabin, he tensed up as he realized his comrade wasn’t in the small building, “Koen…?” He said, then noticing the body was also gone he knew where Jay went, his mind buzzed with worry as he stocked the fire place, The bugs weren’t chirping, which was a sign of danger, he knew other dangers lurked in the forest, maybe some sort of predator animals, but even that wasn’t good, he just prayed it wasn’t a Titan, his only reassurance was that they would certainly hear a titans approach. *watch yourself Koen…* he thought as he lit the fire, sparks turned to flames which happily burst to life upon the dry wood, and Coriin sat down in the firelight and tentivly began checking his wounded leg. He grabbed the torn fabric and ripped it wider, then began examining the gash, it was that feeling you get when you see lots of blood and skin rent and then realize it was a part of you, though Coriin was no stranger to the feeling, he still cringed at the sight, patting at his side he pulled over his small canteen, but something else fell out of his pocket…clanking to the floor was a small bottle of the cheap whiskey you could buy in the city at venders….it was a gift he meant to give to Hannes the next time he saw the old drunk, but…alcohol, even the drinkable kind was good for disinfecting wounds. Coriin set that beside him and continued to work, using the fresh water to clean away the blood and debris, finally he could see a piece of sharp splintered wood jutting out, the sight made him a little sick. *Go on an expedition expecting a Titan, then end up being wounded by a f***ing tree….* he thought as he searched his person for some pliers or something he could use to effectively grab the debris. he found what he was looking for in his pocket, which he kept a small repair kit for his odm gear, unfortunately it didn’t come with extra wire, but it had pliers. He unstrapped a belt and put the edge in his mouth, bitting down on it he began a painful attempt at removing the splintered wood. Walking away from the Cabin, Jay cringed at the cold breeze as it shook the leaves over his head. As he walked Jay got lost in his head as he looked for a decent spot to bury the body. *I can’t believe they move around at night now. God, wait until hange hear about this, she is going to lose her mind. * Pausing where he was he saw pretty big bush surrounded by white flowers. Walking to the bush Jay carefully laid the body down on its back. Not wanting to leave him uncovered Jay pulled out thick shrubs from the ground and fully covered the body leaving a big dark pile surrounded by white flowers. Bowing his head Jay whispers “Thank you for your service and bravery.” When done Jay quietly walked away wrapping his arms around himself as he walked back to the cabin. Coriin tried silently to remove the wood debris, he couldn’t do it long due to the pain, the piece of wood was splintered, and the splinters wouldn’t let the whole thing move without scraping in the wound, he was already sweating and his breathing was heavy, once in awhile he’d pause to listen for any signs of Jay having trouble outside, when he was assured Jay was safe he’d continue, it was a slow process, and he knew he wouldn’t be able to remove all the splinters right now, he had many worries surrounding the wound, but he tried to push the thoughts away. Every tug sent a burning pain through his leg, finally, after some struggle Coriin’s last pull gave, and he winced as the pliers came out with a splintery piece of wood, he let his head rest on his good knee as he gasped between the leather strap which he still grinder his teeth against. The rest would have to be dealt with when they got home, the pliers were too big to pick at the smaller debris anyway, he dropped them at his side, trying to mentally prepare himself for what came next, the alcohol…. Finally seeing the cabin Jay quickened his walk so he can hurry up and get out the cold. Opening the door Jay sees Coriin with a piece of leather in his mouth as he stops mid reach for a small bottle. Whatever Coriin did left a bloody mess on the floor and Jay can see him shining with sweat thanks to the fires reflected light “What are you doing?” “Wood, getting rid of the…the wood….” Coriin muttered as he took a small swig of the whiskey to help with the pain, he was hoping to be finished by the time Jay got back, “There was a chink of wood in my leg, there’s still s-some splinters, but that’ll have to be worked on when we get home….I was gunna warn you but you weren’t here, I think there’s something out there, nearby, did you notice how quite the forest is? I….” Coriin paused, he suddenly realized what was going on, it made sense, “I think there is a Titan sleeping nearby.” Chapter 4, the waiting Jay frowned at the large splinter coated in blood beside Coriin but his eyes slightly widened when Coriin asked about the sound of the forest. The more he thought about it the only thing he heard was wind and ruffling leaves. No bugs, no birds….absolutely no wild life, Leaning back against the door Jay let out an irritated sigh which burned his throat as a few deep coughs tore through his throat causing his already sore ribs to throb. In his mind he cursed the Titan for trying to drown him earlier. Attempting to clear his throat. Placing one hand around his mid section he points toward the abandoned odm gear with the other “Well…..I can go kill it…if you want.” Coriin glanced at Jay at his proposal, “Without backup?” He started shaking his head and sleeked back his hair leaning back against the stones of the fireplace, “No….you don’t look any more fit for fighting then me Jay, it’s asleep….let’s hope it stays that way, if it doesn’t, then we can put it to rest, permanently.” He held up the whiskey bottle, “Want some before I use it? It might help clear your throat some… that cough isn’t good.” Looking at the small bottle Jay shook his head. He refused because he doesn’t like alcohol and felt like it would be put to better use to clean Coriins injury. Walking away from the wall and closer to the fire Jay got a closer look at Coriins leg injury. Cringing at the long Jagged cut and the bottle of whiskey Jay quietly said “That’s going to suck.” Coriin had a very done expression at Jays comment. “Yeah….” He uncorked the bottle again, wishing he didn’t have an audience, but knowing that Jay was there to help if he needed him, he found the leather buckle and bit down on it again, He braced himself against the wall and poured the foul smelling liquid along the gash, he winced but kept on until the wound was thoroughly wet with whiskey, dropping he empty bottle he buried his face in his good knee trying to stiffen a scream, he allowed the alcohol to set long enough to hopefully kill some of the germs and bacteria that may have got into it, then he grabbed his canteen and rinsed it off, his whole leg throbbed and he knew the burning wouldn’t go away anytime soon, but at least it was clean now…. Jay couldn’t help but back away a little when Coriin poured the whiskey, it had a very strong scent that made him bring a hand over his mouth , fearing if he breathed it in while aggravate his already sore throat. Knowing that the wound shouldn’t be left uncovered, Jay picked up the end of Coriins cloak and cut out a long piece of fabric with the knife. He only cut around the bottom of it so it can still be worn. When Coriin rinsed off his leg Jay hand him the fabric. Coriin took the cloth and started wrapping up his leg, when it was secure he leaned back with a shaky breath. “….Did you get him buried, Jay?” He asked quietly as he slowly eased his leg down to rest, he used the last of his canteen water to wash the blood off his hands, “God that stuff smells, I wish I had plain medical grade alcohol on me instead.” He sighed sitting the canteen down again, “That was a gift to Hannes, I don’t normally go around with a little bit of spirits in my pocket.” He added smirking lightly. Pulling his hand back down Jay nodded his head at Coriin first question. “Yeah, I found a bush surrounded by white flowers, it seemed fitting.” Smiling and shaking his head Jay replied as he leaned his back against the wall… “Well it looks like your little “spirits”came in handy today.” “Heh…yeah.” Coriin replied with a little laugh, which took his mind off the soldier again, for now. He leaned over and put a few more logs on the fire, “This situation is a sh*ty one, would have never anticipated being stranded out here….we’ve been running all night, I don’t think we have but a few hours left before sunrise, so…there’s that.” He sat back again, absently picking at the moss on the fireplace stone. He started thinking about the “what ifs” again, what if they returned to the walls to learn something tragic happened after they blacked out, what about Sasha? What became of his dear friend? He closed his eyes tight as the thought of her empty space beside him in the mess hall made him bite his lip. He hated downtime, the not knowing, it gave his mind time to wonder and touch upon subjects he preferred to try and ignore… Jay silently watched Coriin from where he stood by the wall. He noticed how Coriin seems to be bothered by something but he wasn’t sure what. In a way Coriin reminded him of Ethan when he overthinks about decisions he makes. So as an attempt to lighten up his mood Jay clear his throat and said… “Yeah but that’s just how missions are sometimes, completely unpredictable. But on the bright side we don’t have to sit through Eren snoring all night.” Jay knew this should spark some kind of interest because everyone in their barracks knew about Yeager’s loud and annoying snoring. It’s because of Yeager that on some nights Jay doesn’t even go to the barracks he’ll just pull an all nighter and just catch up on sleep when down time was available. If he can’t do that he’ll just train until he’s not sleepy anymore. Jay’s comment brought a brief look of relatable Horror to Coriin’s features, then he smirked and nodded, “Yeah, that is a bit of a good thing, I guess, the man snores like a Titan..!” Coriin shook his head thinking about Yeager’s constant rumbling which could be easily compared to a Titan stampede. He shifted some and crossed his arms tilting his head up to the sealing. “…That or Jean attempting to put an end to Yeager’s earthquakes and only achieving a two man war…” “Then Makalo tries to fire Jean up because he thinks it’s entertaining. I swear I envy Ethan’s ability to sleep through all that nonsense.” Bringing up a hand to cough Jay takes a seat on the floor. He was still cold so he sits down so he can be closer to the fire. Coriin tilted his head to the side some so he could see Jay since he wasn’t leaning on the wall anymore, he nodded, “I do too, I’d like to sleep a full night for once, it’s like Fox wants to see blood or something.” He hated the nightly ritual of Eren snoring, then Jean getting annoyed and waking Eren up to roll over, then there comes the arguing, and finally Makalo contributing to it any way he can just to satisfy that little Itch of his, but right now thinking about the ordeal brought a little grin to his tired face, he wouldn’t mind it all right now, so long as he was in his own warm bed and not a cold cabin. “He only does it because he said it’s funny seeing Eren angry” Seeing that Coriin was in a better mood Jay decided it was time to address a serious problem while the burning in his throat was still bearable. “Not to be a downer or anything but….once morning comes every Titan wakes up again including the one close by. We need a plan just in case things turn to sh*t tomorrow.” Coriin nodded his head slowly, “I’ve been thinking about that….with Lofts gear we can both take one of his blades, and his odm is still good, we can use it to get out of the forest, but someone’s gotta carry someone, then there’s the possibility that it was just that one Titan that was active at night for some reason, and the rest won’t move til morning, but it’s a risk that we don’t know for sure, then we’d be dealing with titans in low visibility again, or we wait until morning and leave, then at least we can see the titans and what’s in front of our noses…” Coriin frowned thinking about their options. “So we either wait until tomorrow when they are all awake but with the ability to see or we go at night with no idea if there are anymore “night titans” but with little to no sight.” Saying that out loud just showed both of them how sucky this predicament was. They were both injured already now they have to decide who’s going to carry the other. *I wonder who we p*ssed off in the past to get stuck in such a sh*tty situation.* Coriin went over Jay’s words several times, and every time it felt like attempting their escape in the night was the worst option, in the day at least they knew what was going on, also more “what ifs” surrounded the night option; like, what if the night titans had other abilities they weren’t aware of? They’d be off their game and surprised, dead…. Coriin messed with his jackets breast pocket as he thought, pulling out a hair tie he began tying back his shoulder length hair as scenarios played in his head. He finally glanced to Jay, “They are both sucky options, but we have to choose one, and for all the unknown risks surrounding going at night, I think our best bet would be leaving as soon as the sun rises, maybe we can get a head start before the normal titans wake up.” They were taking a gamble with any choice they decided but Coriin had a point. Trying to fight against something unknown to them is risky and dangerous, daytime was the least deadly way. Standing up from where he was sitting Jay went to the front door and laid his back against it. Looking towards Coriin he replies… “Alright then. I’ll take first watch.” Coriin studied Jay as he sat down by the door, “We will both keep watch, I doubt even as tired as we are, either of us will be getting any sleep tonight.” He replied quietly, he knew right now, with all the uncertainties and worry, he would only continue to ponder what was in store for them when they got home, who wouldn’t be there when they returned…. “Besides,” he added breaking through his own returning thoughts, “Two pairs of weary eyes is better then one, aye? We don’t have much longer to wait anyway….” Jay stared at Coriin for a second as he thought about what he said. He didn’t think Coriin would want to stay up with him, he was already planning on staying awake the whole time just so he would get sleep. This wasn’t something he was used to and it just showed how polite his comrade is. Looking down at his Jacket he cringed when his throat started to itch, he didn’t want to look like he was ignoring Coriin so he asks “Ok…so how long…do we have to wait?” He cringed when his voice cracked halfway through his question…. “Is your throat ok? Was it just from the water or are you hurt in another way?” Coriin asked, Jay was dragged under pretty roughly, he worried that his comrade may have been hurt worse then he thought. Since Jay didn’t answer right away Coriin added after a moment of thought, “I think we have three hours, maybe three in a half before the sun rises, we can set out just before then, we’d be safe high in the trees from the Titans thanks to the odm, since I’m taller it’d be easier if I carry you, if I stay off my leg for the next few hours it will be fine for travel.” Opening his mouth to answer he stopped himself when he felt a cough building up in his throat. Placing hand over his mouth he forced it away by holding his breath. Feeling confident enough to speak without coughing Jay told him the truth “I….think it’s from the water. I accidentally breathed it in when it pulled me down. The cold air and coughing isn’t helping.” Hearing how long they had to wait Jay just nodded his head but he frowned slightly when Coriin said he would carry him. Coriin frowned as Jay struggled to talk and then shook his head at his reply, “d*mn Koen get closer to the fire, I hope you don’t catch pneumonia….” He put a few more logs on it, and then used a particularly long one to shift the burning wood around to spread the flames. Then he leaned back silent again, silent this time not because he was thinking, but because he was listening, the walls were thin enough to hear the outside, and he still didn’t hear any nighttime bugs, but he didn’t hear any heavy footfalls or breathing either, so there was that, reassured they were still safe he went back to occupying himself by picking at the moss Jay did what he was told and moved away from the door and closer to the fire and took a seat on the wall across from Coriin. He didn’t really have much to say mainly because he wanted to give his throat a break Wanting to pass the time Jay took the knife out of his boot and started carving random shapes and squiggles into the floor. Chapter 5, A fiery escape. The two soldiers fell silent as they waited out the few hours left until dawn, But with an hour and a half left to go, the firewood was running low, Coriin noticed this, and not wanting his friend out in the cold more then he had to be, he got up and quietly went to the door, his leg throbbed, but after removing the debris it was a little easier to walk on, especially after allowing it to rest. “I’m going to get some more logs for the fire.” He told Jay as he opened the door cautiously and peeked out, judging the coast was clear he didn’t wait for a reply as he slipped through, shutting the old door behind him, and making his way around the cabin and to the firewood stash. The early morning air was crisp, Coriin’s clothes was dry by now at least, so it wasn’t as cold as it could have been. Coriin approached the pile and started gathering wood in his arms, as he did this he listened, still, not a chirrup or chime from the local night creatures, It set him uneasy, after getting enough wood to last them the final stretch Coriin turned to start his walk back to the door, when he suddenly felt like something was watching him, slowing down Coriin felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. He stood stiffly in place for what seemed like eternity, but what was only probably a few seconds, then, he glanced out towards the tall trees that stood sentry all around the little cabin, and that’s when he saw them…. They stood by the trunks of the giant trees, their hands gripping the bark as they peeked around them, giant wide eyes set unwaveringly on him and the cabin. Coriin clutched the wood tightly as in his terror he almost dropped them all. “S-Sh**…” he hissed, his mouth suddenly went dry and his heart pounded in his ears, but he didn’t panic, instead he took a deep breath as quietly as he could, and slowly, gently, he made his way to the door, ever aware of the multiple pairs of Titan eyes tracking him every step of the way.then he got to the door, opened it, and closed it behind him just as gently, then he rested his back against the door, still carrying the pile of wood, he whispered to his comrade in a horse voice; “We are surrounded, they are lurking just outside the clearing, the night titans…” Jay watched Coriin leave the cabin as he was left alone in silence. He didn’t feel comfortable letting Coriin leave with his leg still injured but he knew that he would have to walk on it eventually. Closing his eyes so he can focus on what’s happening outside he listened to Coriins foot steps until he was out of reach and he couldn’t hear anything but rustling leaves. *Please be careful.* He goes to stand up so he can listen against the door but he was hit with more deep coughs, which where starting to hurt his chest. Placing both hands over his mouth to muffle the sound, the door suddenly opens. Coriin looked like he saw a ghost as he clutched the pile of woods in his hands as he quickly whispers “We are surrounded, they are lurking just outside the clearing, the night titans…” Cursing in his head because this is what Jay feared of happening, which was them waiting and the titans going to them. Knowing they didn’t have time to be afraid Jay asked with a hoarse voice “How many?” Coriin allowed a quick exhale before he answered Jay, “I counted at least five, but there could be others behind the trees….” He glanced to the odm gear, “I don’t think we can st-“ But before Coriin could finish his sentence, there was a crack above them, followed by smaller cracks and the roof came falling in, Coriin only had time to glance the log sealing breaking, and a big blue eye peering inside before he saw the roof caving in, running on impulse Coriin yelled “Get against the fireplace!” His judgment in a crisis took over, he knew the fireplace was the most sound structure in a building, if they were beside it they could hopefully avoid being crushed under the roof. In Coriin’s rush to the stone hearth he snagged the odm, the roof coming down all around him and his comrade. slamming against the fireplace Coriin ducked as wood planks came down on his shoulders, he was praying he made the right call, they wouldn’t have made it to the door in time.. “Get against the fire place!” As the roof came down Jay and Coriin rushed to the side of the fireplace as the roof caved in and collapsed around them.Jay covered his head as Coriin crouched down as dust from the debris spread through the air. Thanks to Corrin’s quick thinking they didn’t get crushed by the roof thanks to the sturdy fireplace, but they aren’t out of the woods yet. Coriin coughed as the dust came up in clouds, glancing up he saw through the haze what looked like two titans standing sentry above the cabin, their piercing gaze glinting in the fuzzy light of the wee hours of morning, would this be their last? Coriin glared up at the giant mindless murderers, not this morning no, not while they coward, he’d go out fighting or not at all. Coriin quickly pushed debris off of him, luckily only the smaller stuff managed to come down on them, he madly strapped on the odm as he glanced around the fireplace, “Jay!” He hissed, hoping his comrade had as much luck as he did in the collapse. But instead of seeing Jay he saw flames, the fire in the hearth didn’t choke out in all the dust, instead it had already began leaping to the new logs and planks at its base, Coriin saw something else, a giant hand at the side of his vision, reaching through the settling dust and debris, he shook his head in desperation, he felt a finger graze him so he grabbed it and vulted over it before the hand closed, he crashed into the debris sending dust and ash into the air, he didn’t feel the pain in his leg as he pushed up and coming up beside Jay, without a warning he wrapped his arm under jays arms and squeezed the triggers of his odm, the hooks impaled into one of the titans and the duo was rocketed out of the burning collapsed cabin, but on the way up Coriin cringed as they clipped the edge of a partially standing wall and they went crashing down outside…. Jay couldn’t see anything pass the dust as he tried to keep it away from his mouth. When he looked down he saw the fire spread and started backing away but he heard his name being called by Coriin so he stopped. *Where is he? I cant see anything!!!* Suddenly he felt Coriin grab him and the next thing he knew he was being pulled out the cabin and into the air. As cold wind blew around him Jay looked behind them to see the titans watching them soar through the sky. But the peace they had quickly disappeared when Jays view suddenly titled and him and Coriin hit the ground The air got knocked out of him as he curled up on his side and coughed for air. “Ahh God!…” Coriin cried out as his leg took the blunt of his fall, he rolled in the mulch cursing, but through the pain he remembered their situation and shakily pushed himself up, he saw Jay laying in the pine straw and thought the worst until he saw motion, but he had to take his attention off his friend as behind him he saw the titans had turned and started to approach, glancing over his shoulder, his tied back hair whipping to the side at the motion, he saw the titans that still lurked near the trees starting to advance on them as well. His breathing was rapid through his pain and the fear that welled up inside of him, “Koen!..” he pushed up and staggered towards his downed comrade, quickly grabbing him and pulling him to his feet, hoping he wasn’t making him in any more pain, But knowing being Titan food was even more painful, Coriin pushed the triggers and let the wires take him and Jay back into the air…. “Koen!” Jay can hear Coriin calling out to him but he couldn’t move, he couldn’t breathe and he couldn’t see because his eyes watered from the lack of oxygen. He managed to pick himself up off the ground a little until he felt Coriin pull him to his feet and for a split second he felt the vibration of titan’s running under his boots before they are back into the air. Chapter 6, The Hoard. The wind buffeted Coriin’s face as he guided the odm through the trees, even after they passed over the titans that encircled the clearing and through the giant pines he kept going, he wanted to get as far as possible from the titans before he allowed himself to slow down, but finally he knew they both needed a moment to breath…. Letting his last shot reel in all the way he planted his boots against the mossy trunk of one of the bigger trees, it looked too wide for a Titan to wrap its arms around to climb, and there was no limbs closer to the ground, he let go of Jay and slipped down onto the limb that was just below them, he took a moment to catch and steady his own breathing before he asked his friend as he gave him a visual, “Jay, are you alright?” When Coriin let him go Jay immediately sat down with his back against the tree. He was gripping his shirt as he tried to focus on his breathing but each breath he took was burning his throat and chest. “Jay, are you alright?” Not trusting himself to speak Jay puts out his arm and gives him a thumbs up. Coriin frowned at the thumbs up but nodded, it looked like his comrade had gotten the wind knocked out of him, but he wanted to be sure that was all, it was a hard fall…. Coriin propped his arms on his knees as he peered out in he direction they came in, so far he didn’t see any titans, but he wouldn’t put it past them to show up again out of the blue, he turned and inspected the gas tanks on the odm, there was still some left, but could they go through another heavy maneuver situation like before? He didn’t think so…. “I think we have enough gas left to make it to the forests edge, then we’d have to walk the rest of the way to the walls.” Feeling like he can breath slightly better he stood up from where he was sitting so he can climb down and see if Coriin was ok after their crash landing. He heard what Coriin wanted to do so they can get to the walls but he wanted to know if his friends leg will actually hold up that long. But the only way he would know is if he asked him. Communication is vital right now, Being careful so he doesn’t fall out the tree Jay walks to him while asking “Will you be able to walk that far?” Coriin hesitated to respond to Jay’s question, he glanced at his injured leg, although bandaged in the scraps of his cloak he could tell where the green had soaked to crimson. Finally he replied, “I don’t have a choice, besides, walking on this is better then being chewed up by a Titan any day, I’ll be fine.” He assured Jay. He stood up careful not to put his weight on the injured leg, he tapped the gas tank of the odm, “If we are smart about it, and don’t do any flips and tricks, this should last us, maybe we can find the road and-“ the branch they were standing on suddenly shook, staggering Coriin grabbed Jay’s shoulder to steady himself, “ack…” he looked down past the limb and scowled, “How’d they get here so fast?…” Jay followed his gaze and saw the titans running through the forest at a annoyingly fast pace. But what disturbed him was the very tall one running on all fours like some rabid animal. Yelling over the rumble of titans “Sh*t, that’s an abnormal! We got to move!” (Cue me flipping out bc it’s a crawling titan, bringer of my nightmares, it was on purpose…) Coriin shook his head at the sight, the image of a distorted human figure crawling on all fours, the crawling abnormals always gave him chills…. “Aye, lets get moving!” He agreed, he scanned the tree line once more, *Its getting light, at least fleeing will be easier now…* then when Jay grabbed hold, Coriin leaped off the branch, his boots scraping the bark, and the sensation of free falling enveloped him, the odm wires struck the trunk of another tree and they went whizzing through the morning air, with a glance below Coriin could see the pale distorted figures just coming upon the tree they were resting at. *God these things are stubborn* As they flew through the air Coriin was keeping them going a pretty good pace considering he had to carry the weight of both of them on a bum leg. But as they pulled away from the hoard of Titans something bright shined ahead on the ground below, surrounded by a familiar dark green cloak. “Hey! Someone’s….down there!” “Someone’s….down there!” Jay had exclaimed, Coriin looked around then spied them too, also noticing the cloak he wondered if they were ok, maybe they were searching for them? But now they were in danger of the Titan hoard too. Coriin altered their course and began coming up on the scout, Beyond them Coriin also spotted the road, They had came full circle! but as they neared his heart sank deeply, for the scout was an unmoving mass that lay amongst the underbrush along the dirt road. Alighting against a nearby tree Coriin bit his lip as the pain in his leg seared from the impact, then he glanced down at the scout, they weren’t too high up, enough to slip down to the ground, Coriin felt like attempting to land on the ground would only end in a tumble… The dead scouts cloak shifted in the wind some, and Coriin silenced a gasp. it took him off his guard a little, to see that the man they approached would have been laying face down in the mulch…if, he had had a face, or a head for that matter…. Jay tensed up when he saw the unknown scout was missing her head. Looking away he saw Coriin biting his lip and he looked like he was in pain. Jay let go and landed on his feet right next to the scouts body. The wind picks up and blows pass them, flipping the fallen solders cloak over, covering the missing head over her shoulders which revealed her gear that remained intact. Crouching down he searched for an ID but came up empty handed. He knew the most rational thing to do is take the odm and leave but he just didn’t feel right taking it without knowing who this woman was, it made him angry. Burying his emotions Jay started unbuckling the gear as he checked the gas tank and seeing it still pretty full *She didn’t even get a chance to escape.* Not looking up from the what he was doing Jay told Coriin “If the titans come our way. Don’t stop me from killing them.” Coriin stared silently, gritting his teeth against the sight that still replayed in his mind, and even the cloak with the wings of freedom emblem, whose cause this young woman sworn her life to, couldn’t hide the pool of blood beneath her body. Finally he looked away closing his eyes tight, and hearing Jay’s warning he hissed; “I won’t stop you…but who’d stop them from killing you Keon? I won’t be able to back you up if it goes to sh**…..” Coriin didn’t like Jay’s tone, he was no stranger to the rage and hatred to the titans when he saw the aftermath of their massacres, he felt his pain, but he also knew that rage got many soldiers killed…. He opened his eyes at the sound of thundering feet and turned on the wires, he clutched the handles of his odm at the sight of the hoard smashing through the trees. “If we stay and fight, we will never be able to avenge this woman, or the scout in the cabin…” Jay didn’t respond he already made up his mind. What Coriin isn’t aware is that Jay is great at controlling his anger, he knew how to weaponize it. Tightening the final strap around his waist, he picked up the blades. Clicking the trigger and in a instant he was right beside Coriin and causally said…. “I never said I was staying to fight. As we go if they get in our way, They will die.” Coriin stared at Jay for a brief moment before nodding silently, relieved Jay was a man that kept his head, he saw too many turn and die because they lost control. Knowing they had no time to linger Pushing off the tree Coriin’s hooks implanted into another tree and shot him into the air. Leaving the downed scout to a grim, after death fate, Coriin scowled as he heard a Titan behind them roar, and quickly wiped his eyes with the sleeve of his shirt before squeezing the trigger and continuing to guide himself through the tangle of trees. His mind was a whirlwind of thoughts, he glanced to his comrade who flew through the air beside him now, his hair sleeked back by the winds, “I’ve saw a lot of scouts become blind by their anger, I’m sorry for assuming you’d be the same way, Koen…” he looked back ahead and shook his head, “You scared me for a moment there….if things do go to sh*t, I will have your back no matter what.” He assured him quietly. “It’s ok. Let’s just focus on getting home.” Jay noticed Coriin was upset about the soldier and looked like he was holding back tears but Jay didn’t comment on it. As the were heading for the road a 15mm Titan was walking on it didn’t even notice them zipping right towards it. Being true to his word Jay pulled ahead of Corrin and shot a hook right into the titans back. Clicking the trigger Jay is pulled towards it at full speed with his swords gripped tightly in his hands. In one smooth motion the head of the Titan falls off. Coriin watched as his comrade kept his word and in one fell swoop severed the Titans head from its body, a very ironic end to the creatures who contributed to the beheading of the female scout. He didn’t flinch as the titans blood painted the nearby trees, shimmering in the early light of dusk. He just continued on, behind him he could hear the unwavering thunder of Titan feet as the hoard continued after them, determined to catch their prey….but then Coriin realized something, glancing over his shoulder he frantically tried to count the numbers, but they were moving between trees too much, there was more then six, “Koen!” Coriin exclaimed as he turned to face forward, his sharp features were forrowed in thought, “Koen! These titans will continue to follow us into the open outside the forest, but we can’t use odm out there, and we can’t lead the titans back to the walls!” He frowned and shook his head, *think Corii….* he told himself, looking down he suddenly glanced a glittering stream below and the idea hit him, *The cliffs and the river!* “To the right Jay! Back to the cliffs! We have to lead them off the edge, and then we can make a break for the fields!” Swinging the swords down to get the steaming blood off them Jay heard Coriin yell at him. Behind his friend where multiple titans all different shapes and sizes….leading the charge was the abnormal. “To the right, Jay!…” Running to the right Jay jumps and let’s his hook connect to a tree to pull him back into the air and after Coriin. *If we can lure the hoard over the cliff, it’d take them some time to catch back up with us…by that time, we’d be out of the forest and homefree…* Coriin’s thoughts were interrupted by another Titan roar, he shook his head and glanced behind him, the abnormal was getting testy, but he knew it wouldn’t be able to catch up with them, especially not in all the thicket contributed by the giant pines. Soon Jay was by his side again and the duo linked tree to tree as the night titans followed in tow. “One track minded things aren’t they? Reminds me of a certain someone…” Coriin said, he didn’t know why he was suddenly picking fun at Mikasa, but he really was reminded of her by the titans single mindedness to eat them. Hearing Coriins comment Jay couldn’t help but shake his head as he looked down at the titans below. “I don’t know what’s funnier. The fact your comparing someone to a Titan ….or the fact I know who you are talking about.” Bringing his arm to his face, he coughed to clear his throat. The wind from the air was making it painful to talk and the yelling he did earlier was starting to get to him. Coriin couldn’t help but smirk a little at Jay’s reply, but it didn’t stay as he heard his friend trying to stiffen a cough, he glanced to him, he hoped he wouldn’t get sick after all this. *CRASH* another tree fell victim to the titans unsought, Coriin stiffened at the sound and glanced behind him, seeing that they were still behind a little ways he detensed, but what he didn’t expect was when he looked back ahead, and out from the left came a rouge Titan bursting through the underbrush, sending limbs and leaves flying into their path, *F***!* Coriin grimaced, “Lookout!” He yelled as Titan arms came reaching towards them as they passed over it. Coriin tried to alter his path, clicking the trigger of his odm and sending a wire towards a tree to the right to evade collision with the scabby hand, but his eyes widened as he realized the Titan was faster, it had held up its other hand and his hook latched onto the palm instead. . “No!” He hissed as the open hand awaited him, not having time to alter course again, Coriin grit his teeth and allowed the situation to unfold, he gripped his swords and spun in the air, the wind whipping at his face, the world spun, extending his blades as the shadow of the hand cloaked him he felt the impact as the swords slashed through the upper part of the titans palm lengthways, blood sprayed up like the mist off the base of a waterfall, and the hand fell away as Coriin passed through unscathed, his face and upper body peppered in steaming Titan blood…. Look out!” Wind roared in Jays ears as an arm Misses him and collides into the ground. Looking around for his friend Jay spots him hanging by the odm wire. “D*mnit!” Shooting his hook into a higher tree limb Jay swings toward the titans face. Pointing his swords downward he plunges them into the titans eyes. Leaving the blades inside he quickly gets new blades. Seeing a shadow of a hand over him Jay jumps out the way as the Titan slapped itself in the face. As he free falls he sees Coriin covered in steaming blood. His wires latching into the trunk of another tree Coriin soared higher into the air and landed against the tree, he looked to the side and spat out Titan blood that got in his mouth during the last minute attack, he shook his head fighting back the urge to gag and wiped the remaining blood off his face so the steam wouldn’t get in his eyes. Turning he saw the Titan on its knees staring up sightlessly with blades jutting from its eyes, it looked like it was crying tears of blood, it annoyed Coriin how it never looked like the titans were really in any pain. He saw Jay speed past and he pushed off the tree following suit, but by now the original flock of titans was getting a little too close for comfort…. Chapter 7, the last stretch. The sound of titans stomping around was getting on Jay nerves as they desperately chased after Jay and Coriin. Looking back at the hoard Jay picks out his next victim. Rotating his body so he was facing them Jay aimed for a lower angle and zips for the tall Titan leading the group as it stepped over the crawling Titan. Feeling his hooks connect around the tree he releases the hooks and sliced the back of the tall titans knees spraying blood on its followers. The tall titan unwillingly falls back squishing some of the titans and slowing down there pursuit. *That should buy us some time* Swinging to catch back up to Coriin, Jay yells… “How much farther Coriin?!!” Coriin narrowed his eyes ahead of them, he saw Jay fall back towards the hoard, then heard the sounds of a Titan crashing down, he still heard Jay’s odm so he knew he was ok. he realized the sun was probably rising over the horizon by now, but the forest was still shrouded in shadow, the sky was becoming lighter toned through the canopy, “How much farther?!” Jay called behind him, “We should be about there!” He replied, he knew the river ran semi the length through the forest, they couldn’t miss it while they traveled in this direction…. The soldiers continued pushing on, after Jay cut down the tall Titan it slowed up the hoard considerably, but once the trees began to fall away as they lessened nearing the cliffs and river, the hoard of night Titans began to catch up again…Coriin spied the deep scar of the valley river cutting through the forest floor ahead and felt a wave of relief cross over him. “There it is!” He called over his shoulder, Coriin led the way as the duo continued towards the cliffs, then Coriin looked down into the ribbon of dark water below as they passed over them, wondering if the blind titans dead body was still under the rapids, or if it survived…When Coriin heard the sound of Titan feet thundering towards them at a faster speed he got on alert, he looked over a shoulder in time to see a running Titan nearing the cliff edge, but instead of falling, at the last second this one leaped as all the rest ran off the edge, it all happened too fast, the expressionless face of the Titan growing closer, a reaching hand, then he felt the titans bony fingers wrap around his waist, then the forest blurred into cliff sides as he was doomed to plummet along with his captor, Coriin felt the hopelessness of free falling without the odm as a fail safe, for a moment he thought all was lost, closing his eyes tight he suddenly saw the images of the dead soldiers he can Jay encountered that night, he scowled, biting his lip, turning he ripped his arm free and stabbed the sword into the Titans wrist between the major tendons and the hand went slack, he left the sword and pushing out from between the fingers Coriin shot his wires into the cliffside as the Titan violently crashed into the river and other titans below. Watching the titans flailing and sinking into the river was very satisfying to Jay especially after that nightmare they put him and Coriin thought, *Finally…* They both swing back to the top of the cliff and drop to the ground and for the first time in the last few hours they had a moment of peace…. Coriin lay on his back catching his breath after that near death ride with the running Titan, after a moments silence, where all that could be heard was the two soldiers panting, Coriin tilted his head to see his comrade beside him, “we did it….let’s get outta this forest now…” Coriin knew they had a moment to rest, but he was worried more titans would show up after all that commotion, he stood up trying to shrug off the feeling of the titans grip on his body, he rotated his shoulders and tested his injured leg, then he offered a hand down to his comrade, they had one final stretch and they would be home, he wanted to get it over with, and he didn’t care if he’d ever set another foot in this forest of death and horror. Jay sat with his head on his knees as he tried to slow his breathing down so he could catch his breath. Peeking through his bangs he saw Coriin offering him a hand which he gladly accepted. As much as he just wanted to stay on the ground, Jay knew it was best to hurry up and return to the walls. Standing up they both shoot off into the trees as they head out the woods. The determined scouts soon reached the forests end, after a brief rest, they continued the last chapter of their travel on foot, crossing through the plains was slow as the pair was tired and exhausted, but once they found a road and began walking it, they soon crossed paths with a surprised Calvary scout unit, which aided them in returning to safety. Coriin’s mind raced as the group passed through the gates, he heard voices as scouts called to each other, but he wasn’t paying attention, they had been through so much, and now that they were safe again, his mind came back full circle to worry on the “what ifs”, mostly, what if Sasha, or….Sasha’s body was just another dead mound in the forest somewhere, one they may have walked right past without ever knowing….he chewed his lip and closed his eyes, but now that they made it out, the time for them to learn what became of the squad members was growing nearer, and it was all he could think about. As they rode down the street people were gawking and shouting at them. It’s not everyday scouts return ALIVE after being left outside the walls. Jay was sitting beside Coriin when he noticed his eyes where closed. At first he thought he fell asleep until he saw him biting his lip, which was something Jay noticed he did when he was worried. Looking up to see how far they were Jay spots some familiar faces. Nudging Coriins shoulder to get his attention. Clearing his throat Jay hoarsely said “Looks like our squad made it out just fine.” Coriin was nudged which brought him out of his thoughts, “Looks like our squad made it back just fine” opening his eyes as he repeated Jay’s words several times in his mind, just to be sure he heard him right, Coriin turned to look as the horses slowed to a stop, Sure enough Coriin spied the familiar faces of their squad, he felt his body relax and realized just how tense he was during the whole ride back to the walls, Coriin slipped off the horse he and Jay rode and as soon as he touched the ground he heard a squeal and he became the victim of a head on collision as red hair blocked his vision, Coriin staggered back as the collision became a tight embrace and he felt a chin buried in the crook of his neck, Sasha let out a rush of words that Coriin didn’t catch since her voice was muffled against his shoulder, in response he just closed his eyes And squeezed his best friend tighter. Slipping off the other side of the horse heard footsteps running behind him and as soon as he turned around he is met with his best friends. Tackled into a hug which he gladly returned Makalo and Ethan quickly let him know how much they worried and missed him. Looking up from his friends he saw Captain Levi watching him and Coriin from afar. The man’s face remained the same but his eyes didn’t. They only showed one thing; Pure relief. Chapter 8, Safe at last. After being reunited with their squad Coriin and Jay were urged to the medical hall where both men’s injuries and ailments were finally tended to, and after a few hours of rest, Henge was the first to see them after learning of their odd encounters with Titans that were active in the nighttime, and after a tiring drill session from the Section commander-which took place in the strategy hall-of which she questioned them on every little detail of their encounters, the duo was excused. “The two of you seem to work well together in a crisis situation….” Captain Levi had said from his corner where he leaned against a bookshelf during the report. “I’ll remember that for the future….as for making it out of the forest alive? Hmph, veteran soldiers who get separated from their units outside the walls hardly ever make it back, so I’ll give you both some credit.” Leaving the strategy hall Jay and Coriin made there way outside but as they went some soldiers welcomed them back and some just stared. As they walked Jay felt like he was being stared at, instinctively he turned his head to the left and was met with a tall female scout, but as soon as he looked at her she looked away and went down the hall in the opposite direction. He wasn’t sure if it was just his mind playing tricks on him but he could of sworn she was glaring at him. *Ok…that was odd* Coriin breathed in the night air, it was tinged with the acred sent of the wall scones as their flames lit the courtyards, he nodded to some scouts that welcomed them home, offering a small smile, and would have continued walking with Jay but he was slowed down by a few friends that wanted to ravage him with questions about their night in the woods, Coriin answered a few, but every question just brought him closer to reliving the entire situation all over again, he already did it once for Henge, and it was a nightmare he preferred to push away, for good, the beheaded soldier and the lost body in the cabin still haunted his minds eye….finally he excused himself from the barrage and looked around for Jay, finally he found the lone scout sitting on the steps that eased down the slope of a stone walkway near the barracks, Coriin sat down beside his comrade. He was silent for a moment before he spoke, he picked at the edge of the stone steps, taking in the calmness of this moment, several times they almost didn’t get the chance to be here now, so many times they almost suffered the same fate as the two dead soldiers, Coriin owed Jay Koen his life for watching his back out there, he knew he wouldn’t have made it back alone. Finally he nodded to Jay, “….Thanks by the way Koen….” He said quietly holding out his hand to shake Jays, as he did so he added, “We had quite a wild ride together.” Returning the hand shake Jay replied,” No problem Reathman and Thank you, without your quick thinking we would of never made it out.” Leaning forward so his arms where resting on his knees Jay added while gesturing to Coriins leg “Definitely. How are you holding up by the way?” Coriin let his hand return to picking at the stone, “It’s feeling a lot better now that it’s all cleaned out, I’m ordered to stay off it for a little bit, so…no scouting or training for me…for at least a few days.” He added on the last part as a rebellious impulse, he doubted he could stay down for too long before he got antsy, at least he’d be back training sooner then actually joining in on missions again, either way, he was glad to hear his leg was in better condition then he feared. “What about you?” He said turning his brown eyes on Jay. For a split second Jay thought about lying but as soon as the thought came to his mind he instantly buried it. He usually kept things to himself because he’s not too trusting of others but after what happened outside the walls Coriin earned all his trust and respect. Messing with the strings on his hood he quietly responds. “ I…have minor pneumonia so I’m not allowed to train or go on a mission until I’m physically cleared by medics.” Turning his head to cough into his hand he continued “They already want me to stay in the medical hall but I refused.” Once he felt better he was going to train whether they liked it or not. With permission or without permission. Coriin frowned at the news of Jay’s pneumonia, though he knew he was probably going to end up sick, he shook his head then tilted it at Jay, the space between his brows forrowing in what seemed like concern, “Minor pneumonia can turn worse if you allow it, you sure you should be out in the night air, Jay? It’s a little cold….” He knew the man would just assure him that he was fine, but he couldn’t help expressing his concern, especially after the cough. “Never mind.” He laughed quietly, “I know what your going to say so….” He glanced to Jay and added, “Seems like the Captain may have us working together in the future.” His features softened in a slight grin, “I don’t think I’d mind, partner.” Jay couldn’t help but smile at that. Even through that nightmare him and Coriin went through it showed how great they where as a team. Coriin Reathman was someone Jay could put his full trust into without any doubt. “I don’t mind either. I will gladly fight for humanity with you, Reathman.”

Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't updated this group in forever, I just don't use dA as much anymore as I'm mainly focusing on my own cosplay stuff. Feel free to follow me if you like! Links are on my profile. :3 (Mostly active on Instagram)

Now that that's out of the way, what do you guys think of the new season of SNK so far? Personally I think it's pretty good although I've only watched the first episode of it but I'm about to binge watch everything up until the current episode.

Hope to update here again sometime!
Also thank you all for joining this group and sharing your art with each other, it really means a lot! c:
